Mary McFadden
1985 Couture Cream Fortuny Pleat Cape Back Dress
A soft cream Mary McFadden couture dress from 1985, displaying a generous Grecian influence. The fabric is entirely pleated, in the Fortuny style pleat that McFadden was known for. Long sleeved and ankle length, with a low waist and stunning draped back. With a simple scoop neck at the front, the draped fabric for the back coming around the the front, ruched vertically downwards a few inches from the shoulders. The draped fabric is sewn in along the back hem, following it about halfway down the back, at once making the piece both more breathable and elegant. With a side zipper enclosure. Originally sold at Bergdorf Goodman, only the store’s label remains, but the owner of the estate it was found at guarantees its authenticity as a Mary McFadden dress. Overall, this piece would make a beautiful wedding gown!
